Meet Somya Gupta, founder and director of operations of mala market! Somya opened mala market in May 2022 with the intention of creating long-term solutions for the community to always shop local and handmade.
Being born and raised in Houston gave Somya a deep sense of gratitude towards her local community. From this, she set out to develop the concept behind mala market - a non-profit collective space for Houston’s most passionate makers, crafters, and doers to join together to elevate our local economy and social wealth of our community.
“If I’m not at the market, you can usually find me excessively sun bathing, surfing, or behind my video camera.”
Meet Ashley Walters, assistant coordinator at mala market! Ashley joined the team in June 2022 with the goal to expand our nonprofit operations and assist local small businesses in their growth.
After a stint in the New York fashion scene, Ashley developed a passion for slow fashion and ethical practices. Out of this passion came the desire to educate her community on sustainable alternatives to everyday products. Her own search for more sustainable products brought her to mala market, where she can connect with local businesses and watch them thrive in the local community.
“If I'm not at the market you can usually find me at the gym, with my cats, or cooking with my family!”
